Summer Camp

Field Hockey Nova Scotia uses the Try-Learn-Play pathway to introduce our sport to boys and girls at an earlier age group.

Program Purpose

This program is intended to introduce boys and girls to outdoor field hockey for the first time. Some of the participants may have been introduced to the indoor version of the sport at the junior high level.

  • The emphasis is on developing physical literacy through a fun, structured, and safe environment
  • An athlete’s first introduction to the game of field hockey
  • Delivery of the program focuses on creating self-esteem within athletes through reinforcement of individual efforts versus outcomes
  • Many of the activities in the program involve mini competitions which focuses on participation
  • Foster sportsmanship and ethical play, positively reinforce strengths, and allow the athletes to enjoy the nature of competition
